Father Daughter Dance

by Seabreeze Church on February 28, 2019

As a father of three young girls, I am learning more every day about what a privilege it is to have and love a daughter. Most of the love that we as fathers demonstrate for our daughters takes place in the course of normal, day to day life – as should be the case. Occasionally, however, there are opportunities to break the normal routines and spend focused time dedicated to nothing but loving our daughters and showing them how valuable they are. That is what the Father Daughter Dance was all about; fathers loving their daughters with their undivided attention.

At the Seabreeze Father Daughter Dance, 32 fathers, looking their sharpest, escorted their daughters through an evening of dinner, entertainment, crafts, and dancing.  The evening began with a meal of gourmet quesadillas and side dishes provided by Bracken’s Kitchen. The meal was excellent, and the format of the quesadilla was especially appreciated by fathers of toddlers (toddlers are not known for their cleanliness) and those holding a baby in one arm (knife and fork are difficult to wield while cradling an infant).

Next on the agenda, fathers and daughters could choose from taking their picture at the photo booth, making a craft, or eating ice-cream sundaes. Not surprisingly, a clear majority elected to do all three.

Following the photos, crafts, and sundaes was the entertainment which took the form of a magic show.   The sleight of hand seemed equally as impressive to fathers as to their daughters (though it should be noted that the fathers were more successful in suppressing their screams, squeals and other high-pitched spontaneous expressions of delight than were their daughters).

Finally, to finish the night, it was the time for the dance portion of the Father Daughter Dance. DJ Johnny G made it easy for the dads to win on the dance floor by playing classics like the YMCA and Cha-Cha Slide. He also kept us on our toes with some more recent sensations such as Baby Shark and the Gummy Bear Song.

From start to finish this was a great event! Great events like this don’t just happen though. It took a lot of Seabreeze volunteers serving behind the scenes with things like decorating, planning and serving food to pull it off. Personally, I am so grateful that they invested their time to volunteer. By doing so they provided me and 31 other dads with the opportunity to clearly communicate to our daughters that not only do we love them, but we really enjoy spending time with them.
