Office Renovation - Drywall, Paint, and Some Setbacks

by Lance Unrau on March 11, 2024

Since the last construction blog, there has been a lot of progress! The drywall and insulation are up. Electrical work continues to move forward, and painting started this week. By the end of this week, T-bar ceilings in the offices will be underway.

We have had some delays in the project as well. Last Thursday, we received clarity from the inspector regarding the firewall between the student auditorium/hangout and the offices. In short, that wall must be beefed up with the appropriate fire-rated items to pass inspection. We need to add another layer of drywall, seal the perimeter of the wall with fire caulking, and replace two existing doors with fire-rated doors. We are working with our architects to resubmit these corrections to HB City. This puts the schedule back a few weeks.

It is an unanticipated setback, but as a result, that wall will be solidly soundproofed and fire-rated. There will be additional costs to do that work, the amount of which is still uncertain. It seems likely that it will not be too expensive of a fix. The inspector gave us permission to move forward with all other aspects of the project, but it does slow down the work on the rest of the renovation.

Please pray for this project. Specifically, for…

  • Our architects to submit plan corrections this week that make sense to the Huntington Beach plan checkers and the inspector
  • The work to make all the necessary corrections to go quickly and smoothly
  • Wisdom for those of us as we continue to make decisions on the project
  • The financial side of things
    • People would continue to be generous and give to NextMove2.0, which is funding this construction
    • The cost for the corrections would be reasonable, not substantial

Take a look at some recent pictures of the construction zone!
