Like many of you, I have friends and family members who are not yet Christians and live spread out around the country. I have a cousin in Portland who hasn’t decided to follow Jesus and another cousin lives in Kansas. I also have friends from college who aren’t Christians yet and I stay in touch with them still. But none of these people will be on my Pray for 5 list.
For Pray for 5, I am going to focus on people I interact with in person on a regular basis who are a part of the local community. I still plan to pray for my cousins and college friends but for my Pray for 5 list, I am going to include some neighbors, some of the parents from my kid’s sports teams, and a close friend who lives across town. These are all people I see in person regularly and are a part of the community where I live but not a part of a church. The reason I am taking this approach is because of what Acts 17 says:
Acts 17:26-27 “From one man he (God) made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us.”
The piece of land you live on is no accident. The people that live around you are not random. God put you where you are and he placed people around you so that you can help them find Him! So, for Pray for 5, I am going to focus my prayers on the people who live around me and the people I regularly interact with.
