Q: What items should my student pack for camp?

Bakersfield is very hot in August. Temperatures will average about 100 degrees during the day. Please keep this in mind as you pack the items listed below:
    • Cool Summer clothing
    • Modest Swimsuit (NO-Bikinis)
    • Pajamas
    • Shoes (must include a pair of closed-toed shoes)
    • Hat (for sun protection)
    • Pillow
    • Sleeping bag and/or fitted sheets and blanket
    • Bath towel and beach towel (for the lake)
    • Water bottle
    • Soap, shampoo, etc.
    • Sunscreen
    • Chapstick
    • Bible, Pen
Note: Please bring ONLY what you can carry yourself. Try to fit everything into one bag if possible.

Q: Is there free time at camp?

Yes! There will be designated time slots for students to spend time playing games, playing in the lake, and growing closer to old friends and making new ones!

Q: What are the sleeping arrangements at camp?

All sleeping areas will be assigned to specific genders and grades. Students will only have access to their assigned sleeping area.

Q: What will be the food at camp?

All our meals will be prepared by the leaders and students on rotating shifts during camp. Each student will be assigned both kitchen prep duties as well as kitchen clean-up duties at least 2 times during camp.

Q: With the camp being coed, what will be the interaction between guys and girls during camp?

All students must stay in groups of two or more, and there are to be NO groups of just one guy and one girl allowed anywhere at camp.

Q: What is the policy on cellphone usage at camp?

Cell phones are ONLY allowed during designated free time or other times specifically communicated to students. To maximize our time at Summer Camp and the growth opportunities for your student, we aim to create a distraction-free environment that allows students to fully engage in camp activities and relationships. However, a major obstacle to fully engaging in anything is the constant distraction of our phones. Rarely do any of us have a chance to truly unplug and be present in the moment of whatever we are doing.

If we are to create a distraction-free environment at camp, we need your help and support. Please partner with us by participating in one of the following options.

Option #1: Accept the Unplug Challenge! The Unplug Challenge is simply this: Leave the phone at home. Accepting the challenge is simple, but hard! It may be a big challenge for both you and your student. But I hope that the benefits will far outweigh the difficulties. We are all on some level addicted to our phones, and we are constantly bombarded with information that is taking our focus and attention away from what we are actually experiencing. By taking this challenge, I believe you will be setting up your student to FULLY experience camp this summer.

Option #2: Bring a phone, but prepare for limited use. If you choose to send your student with a phone, that is totally fine, and you will not be judged. Furthermore, you can still help contribute to a distraction-free environment by talking through the specific Cell Phone Policy FAQ below with your student and helping them prepare for limited phone use.

Q: Cellphone Policy FAQs

Cell phones are ONLY allowed during designated free time or other times specifically communicated to students. Students may bring their phones, but should be prepared for minimal use. There will be one warning for cell phone misuse. If it happens a second time, the phone will be confiscated for the remainder of camp, and we will notify the student’s parents.

Q: When can students use their phones?
A: Students may use their phones during free times specifically marked in the camp schedule. This will generally be for four hours in the afternoon and one hour in the evening before bed.

Q: Where should phones be kept when not in use?
A: Phones should be kept in the personal bag/luggage that the student brought to camp.

Q: What will happen if a student uses his or her phone during non-free times without permission?
A: There will be one warning for cell phone misuse. If it happens a second time, the phone will be confiscated for the remainder of camp. The student’s parents will be notified by Tudor.

Q: What will happen if a student uses his or her phone to view inappropriate content?
A: Depending on the level of inappropriateness, the phone will be confiscated either immediately or after one warning for the remainder of the camp. The student’s parents will be notified by Tudor.

Q: What if my child needs to contact me?
A: Students will be allowed to use their phones to contact parents during free time. In the case of an emergency, one of the camp leaders will contact the parents directly.

Q: What if I need to contact my child?
A: Tudor or Katie will be reachable 24/7 throughout the camp time in case of an emergency.

Q: Are there specific items that my student should NOT bring to camp?

    What Not to Bring:
  • Portable Video Game Devices
  • Pocketknives (or weapons of any kind)
  • Alcohol
  • Tobacco
  • Drugs
  • Non-age-appropriate books
Note: If brought to camp, these items will be confiscated immediately, and parents will be notified. Depending on the severity of the item, parents may be asked to come pick up their student early from camp

Q: What is the purpose of High School Summit?

Because the purpose of the summit is to train students in leadership, there is no option to JUST attend the summit without also attending summer camp. This is NOT a HS only camp, but an opportunity for student leadership training.
